The Paintbox - Since 1988

Winner of Best of Show at Volksworld (another “Best Of” for us) one of our favourite cars – really clean and really quick (keep ‘em clean and treat ‘em mean). Now the quickest floorpan car 10.70s and possibly the quickest nostalgia VW in the world! Yet another Paintbox/Prosign collaboration with one of the best striper/lettering/custom paint guys in the world – we love you Mr Melliard.

When Charles Wells Brewery approached us to have a promo bus built for Redstripe I don’t think any of us realised the impact it would have! How many promo vehicles do you know get cover of Volksworld and go on to win trophies at shows…. So yes we build vehicles for “the corporate” we just have a waiting list! It’s not very often that you get to work on one of the most ground breaking hot rods to be built in this country! Paul Beamish has an incredible eye for style whether it’s two wheels or four. It was fantastic to work with Ade “Beany” Smith of Buckland Automotive Engineering and Paul let us loose on some of the details on this fantastic hot rod.

Sometimes in this trade you meet truly great people – Nick Diss in one of those people. He has a fantastic vision of how a car should “look” then follows this through and sells it! The sedan has now passed on to a new owner (top bloke!) but I don’t think it will be the last we will hear from Nick – check out February 2006 Custom Car for more details on this one.

Bernard Newbury's Jade Green Custom Ghia was over the winter of ’92/’93 and was debuted at Volksfest in May of ’93, where it won numerous trophies, including Best of Show. Over the next few years, both here in the UK and all across Europe the car won more trophies than Bernard can even remember including the highest accolade from the custom/hot rod scene – that of winning ‘Best in Britain’ at the Doncaster Custom Show.
